Gbenga Daniel, previously the Director-General of Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization, says his supporters have been begging him to lead them All Progressives Congress (APC).
He revealed this 24 hours after Daniel left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and reported that he was stopping partisan politics.
On Sunday, he welcomed his supporters to a gathering at his Sagamu house and they allegedly told him that they were happy with his choice to leave PDP however he should lead them to the ruling party.
Daniel played a huge role in the campaign of Dapo Abiodun, Governor-elect of Ogun State, having guided his supporters to work for Abiodun, who contested under the APC.
Abidoun crushed Adekunle Akinlade, his Allied Peoples Movement (APM) rival, with under 20,000 votes.
Abiodun had offered thanks to Daniel whom he held a private gathering within minutes after Daniel reported that he had left PDP.
Details of the gathering which occurred at Daniel’s Maryland, Lagos residence, were not made public.
In any case, on Sunday, the former Governor told columnists that his supporters were mounting weight on him to lead them to APC.
“Basically, they said I could resign from PDP… they said I must lead them to APC and they also said I could not retire from politics. That is the summary of what I heard,” he said.
Inquired as to whether he was prepared to join APC, Daniel stated, “What else can I say? My people have spoken”
In his letter to Uche Secondus, national administrator of the PDP, Daniel remembered how he toured the nation peddling votes in favor of Atiku.
